Champion’s story begins in 2001, when Guangzhou Champion Intellectual Property Service Co., Ltd. was founded by Frank Gu. Drawing on his professional experience at a world renowned multinational consulting company, Frank was an early believer that the security of intellectual property was a necessary requirement for China’s economic transformation.
Frank set out to build Champion as a specialist agency focused on trademarks, patents, copyrights, and IP enforcement across mainland China.
Through the 2010s, Champion grew from its roots as a successful IP-protection agency to an integrated brand protection and enforcement group. To support growing demand, Champion opened multiple offices across China, ultimately reaching 13 domestic offices staffed by 130 full-time investigators, extending coverage across the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong SAR, and Southeast Asia.
In 2017, Champion established its boutique IP law firm as the group’s dedicated, independent legal arm to deliver full‑spectrum IP protection services, ranging from administrative actions to civil and criminal litigation. Our core team of 10 professionals includes experts from the Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Association, certified IP lawyers, and trademark agents.
ChampionLegal is currently led by Managing Attorney Joyce Cao, Lead Attorney Lisa Yang, and Senior Adviser Kenda Peng.
Also in 2017, Champion launched Chuangyin, its digital and SaaS arm led by former Alibaba IPR leaders Sean Gu, Andy Xue and Leo Li. Operating as an innovative digital and SaaS provider, we combine big data, cloud computing, and AI monitoring to provide effective online brand protection through automated infringement detection backed by expert human validation.
Today, ChampionAI provides large‑scale online monitoring, AI‑driven infringement detection and removal, and market analysis through its proprietary AI platforms Jianzhi (Streamline), Baichuan (Waterway), and Guanxingtai (Stargazer).
In 2024, Champion expanded into Hong-Kong, adding capabilities in business intelligence, due diligence, cross‑border enforcement, cyber‑security, digital forensics, VIP protection, and counter‑surveillance. ChampionIntel HK is led by former senior members of the Hong-Kong Police, U.K. Police, and INTERPOL, including Daniel Chan, Chris Merchant and Stanley Chan.
